Your car is an investment just like your home, and you spend a lot of money on it so you should treat it properly in order to make it last as long as possible. It’s important to protect your car from the elements, especially in winter because, whether you drive a classic, a sports car or an old banger, you don’t want to be forking out for a new one just before Christmas and a winter car cover can help you to avoid this expense.
A car cover is some material that covers the whole of your car or just the windscreen – if you prefer. They don’t just protect your car from the weather either; it can also protect it from other dangers or things that may lower the value of your car. The obvious purpose of a car cover is to protect the outside of your car, specifically the windscreen, from the weather; this is because it saves people a lot of time when travelling to work in the winter as they don’t have to spend time de-icing their windscreen. Car covers also hide the things that you keep inside your car so it acts as a deterrent for burglars. Having a windscreen cover doesn’t only protect your car in winter but also in summer too; covering your car in the summer can prevent any sun damage such as fading paintwork or interior cloth. However, choosing a cover to protect your car isn’t as easy as just grabbing the first one you see, there are a few things that you have to consider before you make your decision.
- You must choose a fabric that is breathable. A breathable fabric will allow any heat, condensation or any other form of moisture to escape so that it doesn’t build up and damage your car. Another reason you should make sure the fabric is breathable is because if moisture is trapped between the cover and the car in the winter, the likelihood is that it will freeze.
- You should make sure that the cover is weather proof as water needs to run off the cover rather than being absorbed. Again, this is because if water is absorbed, it is likely to freeze making the car cover pointless.
- You need your car cover to be durable so that it can withstand the dramatic change in temperatures that we can experience through the winter. You don’t want to have to go out and buy another just because the first one has deteriorated because of the cold temperatures.
